Christine Chetty

Christine lives and works in Seychelles, a nation defined by its rich multicultural heritage. With over 30 years of experience in education, she currently serves as Director of the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design (SIAD), the country’s sole institution dedicated to visual arts education. In this role, she has championed the advancement of arts education, community engagement, and policy development for the creative industries. Under her leadership, SIAD became the first post-secondary institution in Seychelles to adopt a gender policy, in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning.

As a visual artist, Christine explores women’s issues—focusing on identity, empowerment, and gender inequality in global and socio-political contexts. Inspired by the diversity of Seychelles’ society, she often works with fabric as her primary medium, using it as a powerful metaphor that connects past and present, while transcending social boundaries.

Her work invites reflection on women’s struggles and triumphs, addressing their emotional, spiritual, and social realities. Christine has represented Seychelles in numerous international exhibitions, and her artistic and educational journeys continue to shape her vision for an inclusive and globally relevant art and design education system.
