Asvind Dookhorun was born and grew up in a village in the north of Mauritius. Throughout his life the seascapes and picturesque landscapes of the island have always been the source of fascination for him. Such has led him to complete his studies in Fine Arts at the University of Mauritius / MGI, a PGCE in Visual Arts and later a Masters in Animation and Digital Effects from Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Asvind currently works as an Art Educator and part time lecturer at several tertiary institutions. In his practice spanning the years, he has, through his art, explored social, cultural, and environmental themes. His distinctive style emanates reflective ideas of joy and peace and expresses the vibrant spirit of the Mauritian culture. To Asvind, exploring the emotional link between the past and the present is like creating a new world, and within the space of his canvas or videos, he attempts to build a world that allows the audience to reflect introspectively and retrospectively.
