SDG 14: Life Below Water

Marga Niederer van Huizen (born 1964, Rotterdam) grew up on the island of Tholen in Zeeland, where the rich sea clay and surrounding nature profoundly influenced her artistic journey. Traveling the world with her husband, she absorbed diverse cultural influences that continue to shape her work.
Though she has been creating 2D art throughout her life, she discovered her passion for clay modeling in 2007.
Determined to refine her craft, she pursued a four-year ceramics program in Gouda, developing a distinctive style that merges fragility with strength. Her work is inspired by Japanese techniques and the intricate nature illustrations of Ernst Haeckel. She crafts her own clay, using it as a subtle color accent to add depth and texture to her creations.
As an artist and mentor, Niederer van Huizen runs her own studio, where she shares her expertise with aspiring ceramicists. She is a member of Art Hilversum and has exhibited at renowned venues, including Gallery Kunstlokaal Jacqueline van Putten (Kerkrade), Dutch Design Hotel Artemis (Amsterdam), and Galerie de Kleine Toonzaal (Huizen). Her work reflects a deep reverence for nature and her global experiences, resulting in timeless pieces that capture the beauty of organic forms.
