Berna Doppenberg-Saers is deeply committed to environmental stewardship and sustainability, aligning her efforts with Sustainable Development Goal 17. She recognizes the vital interconnectedness of all life on Earth, advocating for a collaborative relationship between humanity and nature for mutual prosperity.
Berna is particularly alarmed by the effects of forest fires, which significantly increase CO2 emissions. In Europe, countries are uniting to devise strategies to combat and mitigate such disasters. In her home province of Gelderland, a strategic initiative has been launched to allocate 7.5 million euros towards planting deciduous trees while removing more fire-prone coniferous trees. This effort aims to enhance biodiversity, as deciduous trees attract diverse insects and birds, setting an example for other regions to follow.
